Foreign Minister (FM) of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mr. Yusuf-Garaad Omar is on his first official visit to India from 31 July - 04 August 2017 at the invitation of the External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj. He was accompanied by a senior-level official delegation.

During the visit, the Somali FM held meetings with EAM Smt. Sushma Swaraj and MOS (MJA) Shri M.J. Akbar. The entire gamut of India-Somalia bilateral relations including issue of piracy and maritime security were discussed between the two sides during the meetings. Further, discussions on regional issues pertaining to developments in Gulf region and India’s neighborhood were held. An Agreement for Transfer of Sentenced Persons between India and Somalia was also signed during the visit of the Somali FM.
