KAMPALA, Uganda, June 29, 2017/APO/ --

What: 9th German Language Festival of Schools in Uganda

When: 2nd July 2017, 9: 00 am to 5:00 pm
Where: Nabisunsa Girls’ School, Kyambogo

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Uganda along with the Goethe-Zentrum Kampala/Ugandan German Cultural Society and the Association of Teachers of German in Uganda (ATGU) is privileged to organize and hold the 9th German Language Festival. This annual event aims at bringing together schools in Uganda that teach German Language and promoting the imaginative and creative skills of students as well as their cultural awareness.

This year’s event will take place at Nabisunsa Girls’ School on Sunday the 2nd of July 2017. A total of 14 schools will once again come together to interact, sing, portray creativity, network, have fun and above all share experiences whilst learning German. The Commissioner for Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education, Mr Kyaka, will honour the festival. The German Embassy will be represented by the Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Ms Petra Kochendörfer.

With this year’s theme “Gastfreundschaft schafft eine bessere Welt” (Hospitality creates a better world) students will demonstrate – through skits, poems, etc. – how one’s readiness to welcome guests regardless of their cultural origin, gender, age, social or economic status and political affiliation can create a world full of harmony hence making it a better place to live in. All this will be presented in the German language as medium of communication.

The current gesture of hospitality which countries like Uganda, Germany and a number of other countries have extended to refugees has actually demonstrated how a better and new world full of hope can be created in the life of troubled people. We are therefore convinced that students, teachers of German and all invited guests will leave the festival with an enriched and broader perspective of hospitality and its positive impact on society.
