Committees to Conduct Oversight Visits in Western Cape Province

The joint oversight follows the National Assembly’s resolution, adopted on 10 November 2020

The delegation will from 14:00 to 17:00 visit Meiringshoop and La Dauphine farms in De Doorns

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, July 21, 2022/APO Group/ --

The Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development and the Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour will from tomorrow embark on a three-day joint oversight visit to farms in the Western Cape province.

The joint oversight follows the National Assembly’s resolution, adopted on 10 November 2020, for the two committees to assess the impact of legislation and explore opportunities for legislative review aimed at improving the living and working conditions of farm workers, farm dwellers and farmers.

A joint committee delegation will tomorrow hold a meeting with provincial stakeholders that include provincial government departments, civil society organisations, organised labour, farming communities, non-governmental organisations and community based organisations.

Date: Friday, 22 July 2022

Venue: Hex Valley Secondary School, De Doorns

Time: 10:00 – 13:00

The delegation will from 14:00 to 17:00 visit Meiringshoop and La Dauphine farms in De Doorns.

On Saturday, the delegation will from 9:00 to 13:00 visit Soetendal farm in Wellington and Marlenique farm in Simondium. It will from 14:00 to 17:00 hold a public hearing with farming communities at Millenium Hall in Pniel.

On Sunday, the delegation will from 9:00 to 13:00 visit Welverdien and Goedemoed farms in Vredendal. The delegation will from 14:00 to 17:00 hold a public hearing with farming communities at Van Rhynsdorp in Van Rhynsdorp’s Thusong Centre in Vredendal.
