On August 10, 2016 local time, during the joint press conference in Nairobi with Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed Jibril of Kenya after their talks, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed that in the series of outcomes from China-Kenya cooperation, the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway(SGR) to be completed next year, which adopts Chinese standard and equipments and is closely combined with the practical needs of Kenya, is currently one of the most cost-effective railways with the highest standard and best quality in the African continent.

Wang Yi said that if the Tazara built in the 1970s is a railway of friendship, the Mombasa-Nairobi SGR in the 21st century is not only a railway of friendship, but also one of win-win cooperation, prosperity and development and ecological environment protection. It has created more than 40,000 jobs, trained 20,000 technicians and contributed to a 1.5-percent GDP growth in Kenya. In particular, the 14 wildlife tunnels along the railway enable giraffes to cross without bowing their heads or bending down, which presents a beautiful scene of harmony between man and nature.

Wang Yi noted that in fact, railways constructed by China have blossomed throughout Africa, such as the completed Addis Ababa–Djibouti railway, the Abuja-Kaduna railway and the coastal railway in Nigeria, the Benguela railway in Angola and others. China-built railways have not only entered Africa, but also Asia, Europe and Latin America. Chinese standard and equipments are being recognized and welcomed by an increasing number of countries.
