UNDP South Sudan Welcomes New Country Director Mr. Kamil Kamaluddeen

Mr. Kamaluddeen is a development management economist and governance expert with wide ranging international policy advisory and country office management experience

Kamil Kamaluddeen brings a wealth of knowledge in recovery and stabilization efforts and strengthening sustainable development systems

JUBA, South Sudan, October 5, 2016/APO/ --

The United Nations Development Programme welcomed Mr. Kamil Kamaluddeen to South Sudan as the agency’s new Country Director on Tuesday, 4 October.  Mr. Kamaluddeen joins the South Sudan country office after a successful stint in Liberia.   

Mr. Kamaluddeen is a development management economist and governance expert with wide ranging international policy advisory and country office management experience. For most of his international career, KK, as Mr. Kamaluddeen is widely known, worked extensively on transformative policies and programmes that advanced economic and social opportunities for millions struggling to escape poverty and crisis, and helped governments to improve inclusive governance and service delivery systems.   

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Kamaluddeen served in several capacities in the UN system, including recently as UNDP Country Director in Liberia (2013-2016) and Ghana (2008-2013); Economics Advisor and Head of Policy and Strategy Unit at UNDP in Liberia (2002-2008) and Ghana (2002-2005); Programme and Administration Officer with ILO Africa Regional Office in Cote d’Ivoire (2002); and National Economist and Head of the National Management of Socioeconomic Development Programme Team at UNDP in Nigeria (1998-2002). He has also contributed to change management and programme refinement exercises in many UNDP offices including Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Lesotho, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Tanzania.

Prior to joining the UN system, Mr. Kamaluddeen had a distinguished academic career teaching at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Nigeria, University of Ilorin in Nigeria, and University of Liberia, Monrovia. Mr. Kamaluddeen holds a B.Sc in Management Studies and Ph.D. in Economics from the Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Nigeria and a Postgraduate Certificate from Cambridge University, United Kingdom.
