UK experts deliver week of communications training to support Tunisian Government

Communications experts from the UK Government conducted a week of training with the Government of Tunisia as part of an on-going bilateral project to strengthen strategic communications across government

TUNIS, Tunisia, February 27, 2017/APO/ --

From 9-15 February UK Government communications experts delivered two training programmes to reinforce the role and importance of government communications, to share best-practice strategic communications tools and to support Government of Tunisia communicators to develop their expertise in crisis communications. British Ambassador to Tunisia, Louise De Sousa, hosted the five days of training attended by more than 30 officials from eight ministries across the Government of Tunisia. The training was part of an on-going bilateral project to support Tunisia’s strategic communications work and was delivered in partnership with the UK Government Communications Service and the British Embassy, Tunis. Since 2011, the UK Government has provided development programmes to support Tunisia’s democratic transition. British Ambassador to Tunisia Louise De Sousa said: I am delighted to see the successful continuation of this important bilateral programme with the Government of Tunisia. Effective communication is important for all governments. The ability to plan and manage communications campaigns, respond effectively in a crisis, and engage responsively with the public according to their needs, is essential for government communicators. Through this on-going partnership between our governments and through a strengthening of government communications, we can support Tunisia’s democratic transition.

Alex Aiken, Executive Director for UK Government Communications said: It was an honour for the UK Government Communication service to be invited in 2015 to share our experience in government communications. Through this programme we are building strong relationships with our counterparts in Government of Tunisia communications teams. This work with our fellow communications professionals aims to provide support in developing strategic communications expertise. In particular it will support communications to the Tunisian public on the vision and strategy of the Government’s reform programme.
