South Africa - Travelling exhibition “Ever closer union – The Legacy of the Treaties of Rome for Today’s Europe”

The celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of  Rome (1957-2017) around the world, will also take place in South Africa. The Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Johannesburg and the Consulate of Cape Town, will launch the travelling exhibition  “Ever closer union – The Legacy of the Treaties of Rome for Today’s Europe”.

The exhibition will be showcased across South Africa according to the following calendar:

23 March: an exhibition within the framework of the panel,  “Reflections on the 60 years of the EU in Africa”, organised by the EU Delegation, at the University of Pretoria

24-26 March: exhibition at the Società Dante Alighieri in Johannesburg, 62 Houghton Drive. The programme also includes:

  • Friday 24 March,6.30 p.m. –  a ribbon-cutting ceremony with a presentation by Dr. Luigi Robuschi from the University of the Witwatersrand. Cocktails will follow.
  • Saturday 25 March, 11a.m.-1 p.m.: exhibition for the students and parents of the schools where Italian is taught.
  • Sunday 26 March, 12.30 a.m: social lunch, reservations and tickets are necessary.

27 March - 28 April: exhibition at the Consulate General of  Johannesburg.

9 May: exhibition in Pretoria on the occasion of  Europe Day.

2 June: exhibition at the Club Italiano in Cape Town for the occasion of the celebration of the Italian Republic. It will run until 16 June.
