On November 25, 2016, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Federal Republic of Nigeria H.E. Mr. Nikolay Udovichenko held a meeting with the President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, and members of the Council. Representatives of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia and Association of Nigerian graduates of Soviet and Russian universities "Soyuznik" also participated in the meeting.

The parties discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation between youth orgnizations of Russia and Nigeria, participation of the Nigerian delegation in the XIX World Forum of Youth and Students to be held in Sochi, Russia, in October 2017. Ambassador suggested the National Youth Council to participate in the selection of Nigerian candidates for Russian governmental scholarships scheduled for February-March, 2017.
