Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania

NEW YORK, United States of America, September 26, 2015/APO (African Press Organization)/ --

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals and requested Mauritania’s active support in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Secretary–General and President Abdel Aziz discussed the security and humanitarian situation in the Sahel and the need to enhance regional cooperation to address terrorism, displacement, migration and illegal trafficking.

The Secretary-General stressed the urgency of resolving the question of Western Sahara and thanked Mauritania for its continued support to the mediation process.
