Provision of Police Vehicles in Nairobi (approx. Kshs 43.0 Million)

Today, the Handing Over Ceremony of a GGP project “The Project for the Improvement of Public Safety in Nairobi through the Provision of Police Vehicles” was held at the Kenya Police Headquarters, Nairobi

At the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Toshitsugu Uesawa, Ambassador of Japan expressed his pleasure to work with Kenya Police Service

NAIROBI, Kenya, August 18, 2016/APO/ --

The Government of Japan has been providing funds to local non-profit organizations through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) since 1989.

Today, the Handing Over Ceremony of a GGP project “The Project for the Improvement of Public Safety in Nairobi through the Provision of Police Vehicles” was held at the Kenya Police Headquarters, Nairobi. The Grant Contract of this project was signed on 22nd of July 2016. 

The project received a grant amounting to USD 450,122 (approx. Kshs 43.0 Million) for purchasing 13 saloon vehicles, 2 sport utility vehicles (SUV) and 2 motorcycles to maintain and improve the public safety in Nairobi through strengthening the capacity of the Kenya Police Service. 

*Saloon: 8 vehicles- Corolla Quest (TOYOTA)

               5 vehicles- CIAZ (SUZUKI)

*SUV:     2 vehicles- ASX (MITSUBISHI)

*Motorcycle: 2 vehicles- AG200 (YAMAHA)

At the ceremony, H.E. Mr. Toshitsugu Uesawa, Ambassador of Japan expressed his pleasure to work with Kenya Police Service, since currently security issues are one of the biggest challenges for the entire world and it is crucial to build relationships with others to create a safe world. He also added that the project increased the capacity of the Kenya Police Service through what Japan is good at; that is to say Japanese vehicles and by increasing the number of police vehicles, the visibility of the police will increase and will deter crimes.

He also referred to the “6th Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD VI)” which would be held from 27th-28th August, 2016. The Ambassador emphasized that it will be extremely important to provide security during the conference, to ensure that the TICAD conference, which will be held in Africa for the first time will be successful. Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Joel Kitili responded by mentioning that the Kenya Police Service are ready to receive the guests by providing security
