Germany Increases Assistance for Refugees in Tanzania

The additional funds will help support ongoing operations of the World Food Programme, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and a number of non-governmental organisations helping with the refugee situation in Tanzania

Members of the press are kindly invited for a joint press conference

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, November 11, 2016/APO/ --

The German Embassy is pleased to announce a contribution of Euro 11 Million (TSH 26,4 Billion) to assist Tanzania in coping with the continued arrival of refugees in its western regions. The additional funds will help support ongoing operations of the World Food Programme, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and a number of non-governmental organisations helping with the refugee situation in Tanzania.

The Government of the Federal Republic of Germany has decided to make these funds available from the Emergency Relief Fund of the Federal Foreign Office as a sign of its solidarity with the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania. The German government would also like to underline its commitment to burden-sharing at a time when Germany itself is host to an ever increasing number of refugees due to the crisis in the Middle East.

Members of the press are kindly invited for a joint press conference as are representatives of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, the World Food Programme and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. This will be held on Monday, 14 November 2016 at 9.30 am at Umoja House, corner of Hamburg Avenue and Mirambo Street.
