European Union and Sudan agree to further in the fight against human trafficking and irregular migration

KHARTOUM, Sudan, October 7, 2015/APO (African Press Organization)/ --

General Esmat Abdel-Rahman Zein Al Abdeen, Sudanese Minister of Interior met at his Office today Ambassador Tomas Ulicny, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Sudan.  

Ahead of the Valletta EU-Africa Summit on Migration that will take place in Malta on 11 November 2015, the meeting confirmed the full support of the EU to the Sudan efforts to fight against human trafficking and irregular migration.

During the meeting, the EU Ambassador highlighted how managing migration flows can only be effective through international cooperation between countries of origin, transit and destination. 
He, therefore, stressed that cooperation on migration may be an opportunity to strengthen economic and political relations between the EU and the Sudan.

The EU Ambassador emphasized that central and immediate objective of the Union's current activities on migration is to save lives and prevent the exploitation of migrants. In this respect, 
the EU confirmed its support to further strengthen the capacities of the Sudanese authorities in charge of combating human trafficking. This support would be complementary to development assistance especially with regard to refugees, IDPs and host communities.

The Sudanese Minister of Interior welcomed EU support to Sudan on migration, and confirmed the Government's commitment to fully cooperate with the EU on this matter.
