Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Madagascar in Response to the Cyclone Disaster

The Madagascar Government’s statement on March 15 reported that the death toll from the disaster rose to 81 and the total number of those affected has reached more than 420,000

On March 21, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents and plastic sheets) to the Republic of Madagascar, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the serious damage caused by the recent cyclone.

In Madagascar, a cyclone passed from March 7 to 10 and caused extensive damage such as serious floods in several areas including the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo. The Madagascar Government’s statement on March 15 reported that the death toll from the disaster rose to 81 and the total number of those affected has reached more than 420,000.

Upon request from the Government of Madagascar, and in light of the friendly bilateral relations, Japan decided to provide emergency assistance to Madagascar to meet its humanitarian needs.
