British High Commission welcomes back 2015 Chevening Scholars

PRETORIA, South Africa, February 18, 2016/APO (African Press Organization)/ --

On 22 February 2016, British High Commissioner to South Africa H.E Dame Judith Macgregor will host a welcome home event for 16 South African scholars who have successfully completed their Masters Degrees in the UK under the prestigious Chevening Scholarship programme.

The students undertook Masters level studies in areas including medicine, engineering, media studies and finance, at various universities in the UK from September 2014 -2015.

The number of scholarships provided to South Africans has increased over the years from 16 in 2014 to 40 in 2015These Chevening Scholars join a growing number of South Africans that have gained advanced skills training in the UK and returned to contribute to South Africa’s development in diverse sectors.

High Commissioner, Dame Judith Macgregor said:

“I am delighted to welcome back these16 scholars from South Africa who took the opportunity, worked hard and in a short span of time have returned to contribute to South Africa’s development. The Chevening Programme is a superb opportunity to help young South Africans develop skills and long-lasting friendships in the UK and then build upon these on their return to their homeland. I am confident that these young and upcoming leaders will seize the opportunity to partner with the UK as participants on this prestigious programme. We wish them well in their different sectors as we will continue to strengthen the relationships between the UK and South Africa”
